With marques that date back as far as the Jetta/Bora goes, you end up having design cues that hearken back to prior generations; this was a clear break from the J Mays-ish clean arc of the Jetta IV and actually, to me, points all the way back to Jetta I. It’s an honest decision, but one that leaves the Jetta V sedan looking a little like it was designed by a committee — one that never met regularly. In this C-Pillar, there’s too many geometries meeting each other for the first time.
