In some places yes. They also qualify for more leinent emissions and gas milage regs in some places. That is a bigpart of the reasoning behind vestigal rear seats in Evora, 911, SC430 etc.
The main reason is that people wanted to buy a lotus. But they didnt want to buy a very very small elise or exige. Which, in reality, barely was able to fit the driver and 1 passenger. Lotus knew there was a market for a “softer” lotus that wasnt as small and brutal.
Sp they made a bigger gentler car for your midlife crisis.
