Audio/Video

Auto EQ
It’s difficult to reproduce music well in a car, because speaker positioning is constrained by interior space and other conditions. These limitations can lead to sound phase distortion, as well as speaker sound reflection against glass and absorption by dashboard and seats. Pioneer’s unique Auto EQ feature tailors specific musical characteristics according to your taste, and uses a microphone (the optional CD-M20) to monitor and analyze acoustics, then automatically fine-tunes all frequency bandwidths using front and rear speaker digital parametric equalization. It’s similar to the setup feature on many home theaters, and will let you dial things in just right for your vehicle.
Sonic Center Control
More audio obsessiveness from Pioneer–unless a listener is perfectly centered in a car cabin, sound heard from some speakers will lag compared to the sound heard from other speakers. This result in unfocused soundstage and instable frequency characteristics. Sonic Center Control remedies this by adjusting frequency phase and acoustic characteristics by up to 15 steps, providing a clearer, focused soundstage.
Advanced Sound Retreiver
Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity that the artist originally wanted you to hear from compressed MP3, WMA and AAC files stored on disc, USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. Pioneer’s Advanced Sound Retriever technology restores data (especially high-frequency data) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process.
Eight-Band EQ
With Pioneer’s eight-band graphic equalizer, you can customize the equalization levels to best match the acoustics of your car.
MOSFET Amplification
The MVH-P8300BT cranks out 4 channels of 50 Watts with efficient MOSFET amplification, and offers three 4V RCA preamp outputs for growing your system.

Best Head Unit I’ve ever had,
This unit worked great. Easy to install. It can play movies, lists an entire description of the song playing with album artwork, and you can fully customize the color display. It has bluetooth which pairs like a charm. I fed the wire through panels to my visor. Its loud and clear and everyone I talk to can’t believe how well I come across. Every feature works great and it equalizes my car speakers for peak performance sound. I installed Polk Dbs. I have a droid and it pairs no problem. It is heavily made for an iphone, but for everything you could need a head unit for, it works perfect.

|Does NOT have Bluetooth Audio Streaming!,
All in all, this is a very capable unit. Bluetooth, USB, SD, I-Pod,Pandora. With the absence of a CD Player one would have thought that it would have also included support for BT Audio Streaming. That unfortunately is not the case. I was informed by Pioneer that they have done away with support for BT streaming 2 generations back. There are only 2 Navigation sysstems that still have that feature. I am hoping that since this is a flash upgradable system, that Pioneer comes to their senses and adds the streaming capability.
I’m upgrading from a 4 year old Premier DEH-P980BT which did have BT streaming. I’m sorry to see it go.

|Could have been so much better,
The Good -
The radio looks really cool. It has a nice big screen, and while Pioneer
continues to go with the whole blue glow look, the screen now adds the ability
to show many other colors.
The bluetooth works great on this radio, and this was a huge reason I wanted
to get it. It connected to my Droid easily, downloaded my phonebook, and is a
breeze to use.
The Bad -
The worst thing of all is how Pioneer decided to change how to use presets on
the radio and XM. It used to be all you had to do was press up or down on the
joystick (MC) and it would take you through your presets. Not anymore. Now,
you have to press up which brings you to a menu of all of your presets. You
then have to scroll down to find the one you want and then press in the joystick
(MC). To make matters worse, using the HD radio addon, it doesn’t even tell you what the
station is in the menu, it just says “Preset 1″. So you have to memorize what
you have saved where. To me this was a stupid idea. Give the user the ability
to scroll quickly through their presets.
This unit is really only made for iPods, iPhones, or the iTouch. All of the cool
things you see displayed on it can ONLY be obtained through the use of an
Apple product.
Pandora – Can only be accessed by an Apple product.
Album art work – Can only be accessed by an Apple product. If you use a USB
drive, it will only show a musical note as the artwork even if you have your file
tagged correctly.
Only upside is that Pioneer now allows you to shuffle within a folder which they
had removed or butchered in previous headsets.
As someone who despises Apple and their products I find that I have no use for
this product anymore and am going to sell it. So beware if your interested that
you need to have an Apple product to really enjoy this.
Conclusion -
I like the radio a lot. It looks really cool. It interacts well. The joystick has been
improved. And it has a ton of new options. Unfortunately, Pioneer seems to
have forgotten some of the basics of radio operation… like scrolling through
presets rather than going through menus.
