What will happen if I return a new car back to the dealership?

Question by tawneelove17: What will happen if I return a new car back to the dealership?
I purchased the Ford Edge from a local Ford dealership in California. I traded in my ’06 Maxima that had a trade-in value of $ 19,000 and I owed $ 20,111 so I figured a thoursand dollar difference OK. I turns out they put the value of my car at 15,000 and they added 4,000 negative equatity to my loan contract. I trusted everything the finance and car peple told me cause my “friend” was the cars salesman. Then they called me a few days later and it turns out I owed 28k on my Maxima so there is an 8,000 dollar difference. Can they make me pay the difference? They want me to put more money down and extend my contract had I known this in the beginning I would never have purchased the new car. I just want to give them there car back.

Not if all thepaperwork has been signed. Ask to cancel the contract and if they refuse, talk to a lawyer. Sounds like they lied and made a few mistakes.

Typical scamming salesman – he’s not your friend –
no salesman has friends, only acquaintances

You have been railed with no lube, this is typical for the salesman of today struggling to make a sale,

Yes you have a 30 day return law. take it back and tell them to stick it in their a$ $

it depends on when this happened it is was a couple weeks ago you may be screwed. but if it happened the other day it may still be posible to work it out. I have had friends that have had the queeze put on them for a additional down payment. It took a lot of arguing but the dealewrship had to honor the deal.
With that said if you return the new car and your old car was sold, you will be responsible for the negitive equity. good luck

Here is a link to the Ca consumer affairs dept.

You didn’t say how long you have had the car. Ca has a 3 day right of recission. You may have to pay for use of the car if you are within these 3 days. If the dealer ship did not get back to you with this loan info you may have a case that they stalled in getting the info to you because of fraud.

Good luck

The finance mgr should have called to get an accurate payoff on your maxima loan. If they didn’t – thats not your problem. You are NOT obligated to resign papers. Go ahead and take the Edge back – there is no way the dealer is going to eat $ 8K. Do not resign anything.
